Step Forward RP Ltd seeks to provide the support needed to ensure a smooth transition into civilian life.

Offering veterans a range of high-quality accommodation and skilled mentoring by fully trained welfare advisors, Step Forward RP Ltd seeks to create a successful business solution to the social problem of homeless veterans. With the support of Step Forward, each veteran can receive expert guidance on careers advice, interview skills, training and education grants.

Made up of former servicemen and women, the Executive Management team at Step Forward RP Ltd manage a growing support network and believe that, with increasing redundancies in the armed forces, demand will only grow for a Step Forward project in every major UK town.

SSAFA

The UK’s longest serving tri-service military charity, SSAFA has supported those serving, or who have served, in the armed forces for 130 years.

Today, SSAFA continues to help serving personnel, veterans and their families across the UK. Their network of around 7,000 committed volunteers worldwide offers welfare support for people from throughout the military community, spanning from World War Two veterans to the families of young service personnel wounded in Afghanistan.

Operating across 90 branches, their volunteers provide advice and support to veterans and their families in local communities. Their Service Committees work onsite in army garrisons, RAF stations and naval establishments with over 60 Committees across the UK and wherever our forces are based worldwide.

THE POPPY FACTORY

The Poppy Factory has employed ex-service personnel to produce poppies, crosses and wreaths for The Royal Family and the annual Poppy Appeal for over 90 years.

Headquartered in Richmond, Surrey, The Poppy Factory has transformed itself into a very modern charity. Today, it seeks to become the employability provider of choice for both wounded, injured and sick ex-forces clients seeking work and employers who can offer life-changing jobs.

More than just an employment agency, The Poppy Factory provides case workers that work intensively with clients to develop practical tools such as CV writing and interview techniques. It’s an approach that has already helped hundreds of disabled veterans to find meaningful, sustainable and rewarding employment, and they have plans to support many more moving forward.

THE WARRIOR PROGRAMME

The Warrior Programme helps people to lead independent and functioning lives in society.

The programme, which predominantly supports ex-service personnel, is run as a structured motivation and training course over 12 months. They also run residential programmes in London, SW and NW for veterans and adult family members of veterans.

The programme is ideally suited to individuals who are: not fulfilling their potential, stuck, frustrated, angry, guilty, unsure, lacking in confidence or struggling with the transition post operations, in civvy street or returning to ‘normality’. Post course participants also have the opportunity to attend monthly and quarterly refresher days to review their situation, refresh skills and refocus their goals to help ensure that they get where they want to be in life.

HELP FOR HEROES

Launched on 1 October 2007, Help for Heroes supports serving and reservist personnel and veterans who have suffered injuries or illness as a result of their service to the nation.

As part of this commitment, the charity also supports close family and dependents of ex-service personnel. Mindful that not all injuries are visible, their new £7.5m Hidden Wounds programme addresses anxiety, depression, hyper-awareness and other everyday mental health issues that might cause an inability to sleep soundly, anger and other problems. Their career support also helps those leaving the military following illness or injury to adapt to civilian life.

WALKING WITH THE WOUNDED

Walking with the wounded has in 5 years become a leading charity dedicated to helping military veterans into employment and training.

Invisible Wounds works closely with the Local Manchester office in providing a range of training courses and creating career opportunities for clients of Invisible Wounds.

SHELTER

Shelter is a housing and homelessness charity that helps millions of people each year.

Shelter offers free, expert housing advice for anyone who needs help with their housing situation. They’re also there to provide practical support to families that need help keeping their home, or settling into a new one after being homeless.

With a helpline and face-to-face centres, they don’t only offer advice but can also provide legal representation for those in housing need. As adequate housing is a problem affecting millions of people each year, Shelter also campaigns for changes in the law that mean less people will need their help in future.

HIRE A HERO

Hire a Hero is a charity committed to doing whatever it takes for as long as it takes to support service leavers and veterans in the transition into meaningful civilian employment.

Trained Hire a Hero staff, mentors and volunteers work with service leavers and veterans to help them make the right choices through the transition period.

Hire a Hero will then help them to find the right role in a network of like-minded businesses and partner organisations who want to make a positive difference to those who have served.

In order to address the problems faced by service leavers more effectively, Hire a Hero has subsequently broadened their remit to also cover training, housing and care plans.

TIMPSON

We work with Timpson to provide employment opportunities and career development for ex-servicemen and women.

Five generations of Timpsons have been involved in the business that bears their name. The founder, William Timpson, opened his first shop in Butler Street, Manchester in 1865 aged just 16. Today the business has significanly expanded its presence on the High Street and includes well-known brand names such as Snappy Snaps.

Timpson prides itself in its approach to training and career development. Most of their managers, and all of their field colleagues, are promoted from inside the company. Their pledge is to provide all the resources you need to develop your own career, and fulfil your full potential.
